Please join us on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club for our annual SBSHRM/FordHarrison Half-Day Legal Conference!
This year’s conference will feature a FordHarrison legal update to get you ready for 2023, plus we are delighted to have two very special guest speakers join us:
- Wildalí Lugo De Jesús - District Director, Wage Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Orlando District Office.
- Andrew S. Hament, Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Court Mediator (and former/retired SBSHRM Legislative Chair).
District Director De Jesús will be presenting an overview of laws administered and enforced by the Wage Hour Division of the DOL, including common employer mistakes seen in DOL workplace audits. Andy Hament makes a special return visit to SBSHRM to facilitate a practical (and of course fun) session providing unique insights into the art of trying to resolve and mediate workplace legal disputes.
This year's conference will have three informative sessions:
- Legal Update for 2023: What’s New and What's Coming. A look at significant recent legal developments impacting the workplace, and what to expect as we gear up for a new Congress in Washington, DC and Legislative Session in Tallahassee.
Presented by Louis Wilson and Michelle Tatum-Bush,
Partners in Melbourne office of FordHarrison LLP
- Essential Laws Overseen by the Wage Hour Division of the DOL. The DOL Orlando District Director will be joining us to provide an overview of how the Wage Hour Division carries out its responsibilities in enforcing some of the nation’s most comprehensive federal laws on minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, child labor, family and medical leave, migrant workers, and worker protections in certain temporary worker programs. This presentation will also identify common mistakes seen during compliance audits.
Presented by Wildalí Lugo De Jesús - District Director, Orlando District Office, Wage Hour Division of the DOL
- You’ve Just Received an Attorney Demand Letter – Now What? A practical and lively interactive session looking at what HR professionals and employers should (and should not) do when they receive notice of a potential legal claim asserted by a former or current employee, as well as options to explore in potentially resolving such matters. The program will include a mock mediation that seeks to resolve a threatened lawsuit and explores the art of mediation (including the good, the bad, and the ugly).
Presented by Andy Hament, Louis Wilson and Michelle Tatum-Bush
